Department Profile: Highlights
          The Department of Commerce focuses on the multi-faceted human resource development of the women students who come to St.Xavier's college for Women, Aluva, anticipating covetable academic achievements that will assure them excellent career prospects in life.
           The department has always attempted at imparting the most competitive professional training to the students in spite of the constraints of the conventional syllabus of courses like B.Com and M.Com which come within the structured curriculum of the Commercial Discipline fixed by the University.
          In order to address the career needs of the empowered women of today,. the department has launched a number of Add On Programmes, incorporating frontier professional areas like E-Banking, E-Marketing, Security Analysis and Tally.

           Intensive coaching programmes for U.G.C Lecturership Exam have been launched. Frequent interface with Industry and Banking has become indispensable for effective education in the Commercial Discipline in our times. Pure theoretical knowledge being 'inadequate, the department spearheaded twenty seminars in diverse but relevant spheres like information technology, legal rights of women , E-banking, communication skills, personality development and stress management. COMAX,, the dynamic association of commerce students of St.Xaviers has organized these seminars.Parallel professional training for ICWA, CA, CS etc is wholeheartedly encouraged by the department alongside the mainstream education.

          Students of the Commerce Department have distinguished themselves NCC, NSS, sports, games and union activities.

         The teaching-learming process being an interpersonal transaction of imparting information and acquiring skills within the classroom and outside, an effective feed back system has been evolved by the department. This system mutually evaluates the performances of teachers and students.

Keeping to the norms of admissions set by the university from time to time, the department has always made earnest efforts to cater to the marginalized segments of the society.

          The department has maintained a consistent record of academic distinction in university examinations.

The department has an excellent record of Faculty Improvement in research and acquisition of professional qualifications and competencies. There are eight M.Phil degree holders, three Doctoral degree holders and a Law graduate in the department.
          A member of the department is at present engaged in a U.G.C funded research project. The members of the department have presented ten research papers 'in State, National and International seminar.
A member of the department is pursuing Doctoral research. Effective monthly and terminal assessment programmes, remedial coaching to weak students and periodic parent-teacher interaction have consistently been an integral part of the academic work of the department. over the years.

         The project work of the post graduate students has been effectively linked with the professional, performative, personnel and financial frontiers of modem industry and banking so as to enable the students have practicalinformation and experience in these spheres where new career prospects and challenges await them.
          Educational values cannot but be linked with the formation of character. The department can legitimately boast of inculcating an effective and value based education system with commitment and dedication as becoming the great Xavierian tradition.
