ECONOMICS - The science of scarcity, choice, growth and stability.

Powered from with in by vibrant faculty, the department of Economics works towards providing academic excellence to its students. The origin of the department of Economics can be traced back to the year 1968-dated 2^nd September. The first batch of our students appeared for the university examination in the year 1971 under the able guidance and leadership of Prof. Damodaran Nair as the HOD-Rtd. Prof. from Govt. College. The total built -up area of department is 230.4sq.mtrs. The level of study is under graduate-BA Economics with the subsidiary papers.

(1)Mathematics  and (2) Political Science.

Since its commencement, the department is aimed at providing expertise to its students in the realm of ECONOMICS and overall personality development.

                        As a part of the curriculum 'The Planning Forum' functions under the Economic Department. The Forum Conducts Seminars and Lectures on a regular basis. The foundation for this forum was laid in the year 1990-91.

2011-2012

     The activities of the Economics Association was inaugurated by Dr.Martin Patric, Former HOD of the Department of Economics, Maharaja's College, Ernakulam on August 25, 2011. Dr. Martin Patric gave a talk on 'Research Methodology'. The manuscript of the department for the year 2011-2012, 'Arth-2011' was released by the Chief Guest Dr.Martin Patric on the same day.

    UGC sponsored Certificate Course on 'Human Right Education' was inaugurated by Adv.D.Binu on August 4, 2011.

 2010-11

            The activity of the Economics association was inaugurated by an alumni of the department Ms Anby Baby, Senior Sales Manager Metlife on October 4, 2010. Ms Anby Baby gave a talk on 'The Changing Financial Scenario'. The manuscript of the department for the year 2010-2011, 'Economic Imprints' was released by the Principal, Rev Sr. Percy. The Association conducted the annual general quiz competition on 23 September 2010. The Association also conducted the following seminars: 

• Career orientation seminar and aptitude test by Career Launcher in association with Career Guidance Cell on 7 June 2010. 

• Seminar on 'Practical Accounting' in association with OISCA International on 30 November 2010.

2009-2010

    The activities of  the Economics Association were inaugurated by Prof. Miniamma, Head of the Department  of Economics, St. Paul's College, Kalamassery on 1.10.2009 which was followed by her  talk on 'Sustainable Development and Environmental Issues'.  A Career Guidance Programme by Mr. Joseph Job was organized and Prof. Miniamma released the manuscript of the year 2009- 'ECOMAGIC'.  The Association also organized a series of Departmental Seminars on 'Career Opportunities in Management, in association with Time Institute Kochi on 2.11.2009.They also conducted seminars on courses in Aviation, Travel and Hospitality and Customer Care Management by Team Academy, Kaloor on 15.1.2010 and on Currency Futures by Forex, Kochi on 13.11.2009 in addition to the annual quiz competition of the Economics Association conducted on 10^th September, 2009.  The students of Economics Department paid homage to the departed souls of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack on 26.11.2009.  The II year students gave financial assistance to the children of SOS village and Snehakoodu, Aluva in December, 2009.  Ms.Thanooja Beegum of III BA Economics got the  privilege to design the coverpage of M.G.University II Sem, Hindi Text Book.  Ms.Elna James Kattoor and Sunumol secured the II prize in the Intercollegiate Quiz competition conducted by S.H.College, Chalakudy.
