Department of Microbiology
The Microbiology Department was established as a self - financing four semester course in the year 2002. B.Sc Zoology (Vocational) course in the year 1999 was partly brought under Microbiology.
Microbiology is a subject which is of contemporary relevance. The opportunities in the employement area are varied and vast. The syllabus chalked out by the University caters to this need. Students find opportunities in all the industries. Microbiology is a research oriented subject. The subjects develop a thirst for knowledge and research skills. The project work taken up by the students in the final semester gives them an insight into the subject. There is a good linkage with organisations in this field. The feedbacks obtained from these organizations are positive. The results are encouraging and developmental
The library is rich with good collections of books on the subject; students are give time off to do reference work in institutions like Central Marine Fisheries research Institute, Kochi, Cochin University of Science and Technology, kochi-16, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and to use the Internet. There is a Microbiology laboratory to impart technical skills.
The faculty members are goal - driven who are competitive and research oriented with strong values.
