DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY

The Department of Zoology established in 1968, is one of the oldest departments of the College. The Department offers undergraduate courses in Zoology and Zoology (Vocational) with Medical Microbiology and postgraduate course in General Microbiology. Syllabi for the courses are as prescribed by Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala. Currently there are around 155 students pursuing their undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the department.

Research and publications

Faculty members give due importance to research publications. Faculty takes keen interest in participating and presetting its research papers in seminars and symposia at international and national levels. Students are encouraged to take up individual projects to meet their academic requirements and have won prizes in project presentations. The Department also organizes intercollegiate seminars.

  •     Major Project entitled as 'Investigation on the Biosystematics of Formicid Fauna (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) of Peninsular India including Western Ghats' - (Project approved and sanctioned by DST, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India).

Association Activities

2011-2012

The activities of  Zoology Association 2011-2012  was inaugurated on 4th October 2011, 10 am by  Dr.Bijoy Nandan, Associate Professor Department of Marine Biology School of Marine Sciences, Cochin University of Science and Technology at Mother Teresa Seminar Hall followed by a talk on the topic 'Indian Arctic Expedition : An Experience' .

 

 

Inauguration of U.G.C. Sponsored State Level Seminar

2010-2011

The activities of Zoology Association were inaugurated by Dr. Hyder Ali.  The association felicitated the rank holder Sruthy Purushothaman   and Anaswara Franklin.  In connection with 'Wild Life Week' celebrations in October,   various competitions  in  painting, pencil drawing, essay writing were held. An Animal Science Aptitude Test was conducted and a Debate on ' Use of Experimental Animals Should be Banned or Not' was conducted.
