Women Study Centre

An arena where the focus falls as the face of the faceless and the voice of the voiceless. The Women study Centre aims at empowerment of the women folk and promotes the activities of the college towards social upliftment and services.

The centre provides:
Special training in skills like tailoring, embroidery, interior decoration, beauty care & vegetable carving.Classes on Instrumental music, seminars and symposium on relevant topics like women harassment, women's bill legislations, sex-education & exploitation of women and also developing self help groups.Empowerment of women and elevation of their status at the social level is the fixed point. Activities are geared to uplift the educational, socio-economic and cultural levels of the rural working class women through proper information and the much needed economic support, their confidence and self esteem can be boosted so as to counter the challenge of the day.

  Activities 2010-2011

                The centre started yoga classes for our students on 23-7-2010, under the guidance of the yoga instructor Sri. Sudheer.

               A seminar on ' Chemistry in everyday life' was conducted for our students and the women from the Community on 11-8-2010 by Prof.V.N Madhusoodhanan, Department of Chemistry, SNM College, Maliankara (in association with the centre and chemistry Association of the College). This was followed by a demonstration and exhibition of handicraft items made by him from coconut shell. 

               On 28-9-2010, in association with Maadhyamam Vicharavedi, a seminar on 'cyber crime and its impact on the society' was conducted for our students by Cyber Investigator Ms. Dhanya Menon. The function was inaugurated by Dr. Radhakrishnan, former Vice-Chancellor, Kalady  University. This was followed by a talk on 'Media and women' by Journalist Leela Menon. Sri.M.Soofy Muhammed, (Secretary, Maadhyamam Vicharavedi, Cochin Circle), Sri. John P Thomas (Sr Correspondent, Maadhyamam),Dr.Molly Joseph (HOD, Department of English, St.Xavier's College for Women, Aluva), Adv.Sivan Madathil( President, Maadhyamam Vicharavedi,Cochin Circle) and women study centre Coordinator Parvathy TP talked on the occasion.

            On 11-10-2010, a seminar on 'Career Guidance' was conducted for our II DC students by Ms.Sreevidya. The programme was organized by Kerala state Women's Development Corporation Ltd and Women Study Centre of the College. The class was very well presented and the students found it quite interesting and informative.  

           On 14-10-2010, our students Lakshmy R and Raina K James of IDC Physics and parents Ms.Molly Poulose(M/o Sangeetha V Poulose of IDC Maths) and Ms Rocily Prince (M/o Meenu Prince of II DC Physics) attended a seminar on 'atrocities on women and children' organized by Ernakulam Rural District Police.

Activities 2009-2010

Under the scheme of 'Earn while you learn',a one day workshop on the preparation of detergents, dish washing liquid and toilet cleaner was conducted for our students on 18-6-2009, the resource person being Sri Joseph Neericode

           Another workshop on paper bag making and printing was conducted for our students and the ladies from the community on 9-10-2009 by Sri.Joshy Mulloor.

Our students Ms.Parvathy AS of II DC Physics and Ms Elna james of II DC Economics participated in the extempore competition conducted by the Women's Cell of U.C College Aluva on 22-10-2009.

In association with the councelling centre and chemistry Association of the College, the women study centre also organized a class on 'mental health through yoga' for our students and women from the community, the resource person being Sri. Johny on 18-11-2009.

A street play 'Sthree Suraksha' was performed in the College auditorium by womens wing ( Women's Integrated Development Society) of cochin Social Service Society on 16-12-2009. The play highlighted the atrocities on women and emphasised on the various legal rights declared by our Government for empowering women.

A savings scheme also has been started in SBT for the students. The Centre is also organizing classes on violin and organ.

Activities 2008-2009

The activities of the Women Study Centre for the academic year 2008-2009 was formally inaugurated on 7-10-2008 by Dr. Mary Metilda, Professor, Maharaja's College, Ernakulam. The function was presided over by Rev.Mother Daphne CTC, general Manager and Superior  Dr. Premus Perinchery, Retd professor, St.Albert's College,Ernakulam felicitated Rev.Mother Daphne released 2 books - 'Springs of Grace' and ' Showers of Blessings' written by Rev.Sr. Prescilla. Our Principal Rev.Sr.Percy gave a review of the 2 books. Prizes were given to the winners of the essay writing competition on ' Exploitation of women'.

            On November 14th , in association with I M.A Madhya Kerala and NSS And Ed Club of the College, the Women Study Centre volunteers celebrated World Diabetic Day. They participated in the rally from Aluva Govt Hospital to our College. In the meeting that followed, Mrs parvathy TP, Coordinator of Women Study Centre welcomed the gathering. Dr.M.N Menon, President, IMA Madhya kerala presided over the meeting. The function was inaugurated by Rev.Sr. Della, our vice Principal. Prof. Gils George, Associate professor of Kochi cooperative Medical College gave the keynote address. Dr.Ashok kumar, Secretary, I M.A gave the vote of thanks.

             On November 26th , Anti Dowry Day was celebrated by women Study Centre in association with District Social Welfare Department, NSS, NCC and PTA Principal Rev. Sr. Percy presided over the function which was inaugurated by Adv. Smitha Gopi, Chairperson, Aluva Municipality. Sri K.C Mohandas, District Social Welfare Officer welcomed the gathering Sri K.P Venugopal, PTA Vice President of our College and Smt Elsy Sebastian, Regional Asst. Director of Social Welfare, Ernakulam felicitated. Sri.M.B Radhakrishnan Nair, Regional Dowry Prohibition Officer, Ernakulam, gave the vote of thanks. Adv. Kochuthresia,Sr.Advocate, kerala High Court, took class for the students on Dowry Prohibition Law.

             Women Study Centre has also conducted a one - day workshop on paper - bag making (by Sri. Joshy Mulloor) and bouquet making (by Ms.Deepa) on 18-1-2009, for our students. The Centre has also organized classes in violin, organ and karate.
